VEDP's International Trade Division offers a number of programs and resources to help Virginia companies that are considering expanding their businesses or operations overseas.

Virginia Leaders in Export Trade (VALET) Program: Export Globally

The VALET program helps Virginia companies gain a profitable foothold in global markets using private sector partners. VALET combines planning, expertise and capital to create new sales opportunities for Virginia businesses. A few of the benefits of this customizable program include:

  • Regularly scheduled planning sessions to identify new international market opportunities and needs
  • Capital investment by the participating company enhanced with resources from VEDP to meet identified needs
  • Valuable in-kind services provided by expert professionals in a concentrated team approach. Attorneys, CPAs, bankers, translators and freight forwarders, all with established international credentials, contribute essential skills required for a successful launch, free of charge in the critical start-up stage

Market Visits

Face-to-face meetings are as important to international business as they are to domestic companies. The VEDP International Trade Division helps Virginia companies meet potential customers and partners through participation in trade missions. These well-planned visits are business meetings setup on your behalf, with your input, to save you time and maximize your results. Based on availability, participants also receive language assistance, facilities coordination and networking receptions.

Global Network

The VEDP International Trade Division has assembled over 75 international consultants on behalf of Virginia’s business community. These experts provide valuable in-country market research specific to your product or service. They compile background information and identify potential distributors. They conduct due diligence and arrange “matchmaking” appointments with potential distributors and customers. Additional custom research is available.

Metro Richmond Export Initiative (MREI)

MREI is a joint partnership between Virginia's Gateway Region, the Greater Richmond Partnership and the Center for Urban and Regional Analysis at Virginia Commonwealth University(CURA@VCU). Funded by VEDP and JP Morgan Chase, the program was created to educate businesses about the benefits of exporting and increase the exporting capacity of the Richmond MSA.
