July 21, 2006 Dear Reader,It is shaping up to be a busy summer in Virginia's Gateway Region. We've hired a new full-time Research Manager, launched an unprecedented capital campaign, and received a surge of interest in the Region. This issue touches on all of that and more. VGR Welcomes New Research ManagerThrough the generous support of The Cameron Foundation, Virginia’s Gateway Region has been able to make an invaluable addition to their team – Research Manager Christian Booty. The UK-native brings with him a wealth of experience in economic development marketing, having worked most recently as a Senior Account Production Manager with 310 Marketing in Richmond, VA. Christian has a background in operations within the telecommunications industry, knowledge of global business enterprise, and extensive experience in data research, market intelligence and project tracking. He holds a Bachelors degree from the University of Bridgeport and a Masters degree from Virginia Tech.
Southside Regional Medical Center Breaks Ground July 26 Please join Virginia’s Gateway Region in celebrating the growth of Southside Regional Medical Center. The hospital will be hosting a Groundbreaking Ceremony July 26, 2006 at 10:00 am at the South Crater Road Site (located adjacent to PineHill Plaza). Construction begins this summer for the new 300-bed replacement hospital due to open in the summer of 2008. The new facility will be situated near Interstate 95 on a 45-acre site on South Crater Road, providing patients easier access to the new campus.
New Board Brings Regional Approach to Tourism There’s a new face to tourism in Virginia’s Gateway Region. As of July 1, the cities of Colonial Heights, Hopewell, and Petersburg, and the counties of Chesterfield, Dinwiddie, and Prince George have joined forces in a regional tourism marketing initiative – the Petersburg Area Regional Tourism Corporation (PART).

Momentum Campaign Kicks-Off
The Gateway Region launched the public phase of its ambitious, $3.58-million capital campaign with a breakfast celebration Tuesday, July 18 at the Hilton Garden Inn in Colonial Heights. The Momentum: the Power to Shape Our Future campaign is being coordinated by Jeff Wampler of National Community Development Services, Inc.
